You’ve undoubtedly heard of the power of positive thinking. Well, here’s your chance to put it to good use. Saturday September 13, 2014 is Positive Thinking Day. That means it’s the perfect time to practice optimism and celebrate all things positive!

History and Origins

Positive Thinking Day was founded by an American entrepreneur who introduced it in 2003. The idea was to recognize the gifts achieved by thinking positively.

Take the time to celebrate positivity, not only today, but every day!

Little else is known about the day’s history and origins, but it reminds us of that classic book by Norman Vincent Peale, The Power of Positive Thinking. Originally published in 1952, it’s message still remains relevant today. Perhaps the entrepreneur who started this day followed the book’s message.

Ways to Celebrate

There are plenty of ways to celebrate Positive Thinking Day. The best way to start is by saying, “Today is going to be a great day!” With a beginning like that, you’re definitely starting out on the right foot.

Here are some other things to try on this day:

Read an inspirational or uplifting book. Obviously, The Power of Positive Thinking would be an excellent choice. Some other good books include As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, Man’s Search for Meaning, by Viktor Frankl and The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living, by the Dalai Lama.

Get together and hang out with positive people. What better way for good vibes to spread?

Make a gratitude list. Writing down all the things you are thankful for will make you feel happy and fulfilled.

Practice a random act of kindness. By doing even small, positive things you will end up feeling more positive.

Give a sincere compliment to someone or provide gentle, constructive criticism. Either way, you are honestly showing that you care about another person. A compliment makes a person feel good, while constructive criticism given with love helps improve a person’s life. Both these things are positive!

Practice saying or writing down affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements that you repeat to help boost your confidence and self-esteem. Try something like, “I am doing a wonderful job” or “I am getting better and better.” Repeat them several times a day, and before you know it, you’ll feel a fantastic change!

Take the time to celebrate positivity, not only today, but every day!
