As our magnificent blazing ball of light, otherwise known as the Sun, travels though the cosmos, it will grace the Sign of Cancer with its presence. When it arrives on Saturday June 21, 2014 at 6:51 a.m. Eastern Time, it will also herald the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. Welcome to the official start of summer!

The Standing Sun

The summer solstice always coincides with the Sun’s move into Cancer. The term solstice actually means, “sun standing.” At this time of year the Sun’s rays reach the Tropic of Cancer or the northernmost point on the planet. Notice how it all fits together. Pretty cool, huh?

Well, from now until July 22, look for events to revolve around family and emotions.

As the Sun stands above us in its brilliance, it shines a light on all the beauty and wonder of summertime. Allow it to illuminate the good things in your life too. Take a step back, slow down and enjoy some of the simple pleasures available to you!

The Reflective Crab

So what can you expect during the Sun’s stay in Cancer? Well, from now until July 22, look for events to revolve around family and emotions. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, so there will be a reflective quality to all you encounter during this period. With Mercury still retrograde in Gemini until July 1, you may find yourself looking back on things you said either recently or in the past. Did a Facebook post come back to haunt you? Perhaps you said something to a family member long ago that you now regret. The present astrological climate will have a lot of us reflecting on these issues and doing some soul searching where loved ones are concerned.

With all this inner reflection going on, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be like a crab hiding in his shell. On the contrary, you may feel a sudden urge to spend time with family and close friends. The Sun in Cancer also brings out the nurturer in people, so you could find yourself doing more for the ones you love.

Caring feelings may also spill over into the outer world. You may decide to volunteer or donate to a worthy cause. Cancer is related to home and hearth, so you may end up contributing to the homeless or similar causes in your community.

As the Sun shines on in Cancer, let its warmth bring out the best in you!
