They say, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” No doubt there are practically limitless definitions of beauty, but so often we are bombarded with media images of women (and men) with perfect bodies and fresh youthful faces. What exactly is true beauty and do you have it?

The Physical

When discussing true beauty, of course it’s important to go beyond the physical. After all, “beauty is only skin deep.” But let’s face it; we are all visual creatures. We love to observe and delight in our visual senses. There is nothing wrong with that as long as we don’t let it cloud our judgments.

Your true inner beauty can manifest itself in a number of ways. It might be the warmth that you share with a fellow human being.

But what if you don’t look like the model on the magazine cover? True beauty isn’t about someone else’s standard; it’s about your own uniqueness.

What physical features or characteristic make you stand out? Is it your cute, crooked smile? A charming turned-up nose? Maybe it’s a headful of unruly, but lovely curls. Whatever it is, it sets you apart and makes you who you are. That is true beauty—the individuality of your appearance.

Beyond the Physical

True beauty also goes beyond the physical, residing deep within the heart and soul. Sometimes we need to uncover the layers to find it, but that spark of light buried well within our core is also our true beauty.

Your true inner beauty can manifest itself in a number of ways. It might be the warmth that you share with a fellow human being. It could be the sensitivity you display when helping a child or listening to an elderly person. Or it could be the way you passionately stand up for yourself and your convictions.

Most of all, true beauty is simply love. It’s the love within you that you share, receive and feel.

Do You Have It?

Whether or not you think you have true beauty—you do. You are already equipped! You were born with it.

The trouble is, so many of us have had our true beauty programmed right out of us. Other tell us what true beauty is or what it should look like—and we believe them. For some reasons, these “others” are “experts.” Says who?

You are the real expert and luckily the true beauty you have hasn’t gone anywhere at all. All you need to do is remember, look in the mirror and look within. You’ve got it!
