What if something as simple as sound could improve your health and well-being? It’s quite possible. If you stop and think about it, sound is composed of very powerful energetic vibrations. Just imagine an opera singer hitting a high note and shattering a wine glass—now that’s pretty amazing. Find the right frequency or tone and who knows what could happen!
The ancients knew the power of frequency and tone and used them to compose sacred music in order raise vibrations in body, mind and spirit. The rhythms they used were the Solfeggio frequencies. These tones have been rediscovered and are used today to help promote harmony, health and healing.
History and Origins
The Solfeggio frequencies are generally attributed to the sacred music of Gregorian Chants. These solemn hymns were used to raise spiritual vibrations and convey blessings upon the faithful. Mostly associated with the Christian Church in medieval times, these chants are still heard in some European monasteries today. According to Willi Apel, author of Gregorian Chant, the origin of the Solfeggio frequencies can be traced back to a hymn to St. John the Baptist sung during the medieval period.
These tones have been rediscovered and are used today to help promote harmony, health and healing.
The development of the Solfeggio scale is credited to Guido d’Arezzo, a Benedictine monk who lived around the 10th to 11th century. However, alternate theories state that the scale may have originated with early Arabic music. Still, others claim that King David is responsible and later passed the secrets down to King Solomon. And finally, the mathematical portions of the scales are attributed to Pythagoras, the ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician.
Regardless of the history, we are fortunate to have rediscovered their beauty and power. Thanks to the work of Dr. Leonard Horowitz, Dr. Joseph Puleo and G.W. Hardin over the last fifteen years, we have resurrected these powerful frequencies once again.
The Six Frequencies
Although there are nine frequencies (which can be expanded further), we most commonly work with six. You may even recognize some of them. They are Ut-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La, which is fairly close to the Do-Re-Mi many of us grew up with.
Broken down and measured in Hertz respectively, the scale becomes: 396 Hz, 417 Hz, 528 Hz, 639 Hz, 741 Hz and 852 Hz. Each frequency has a specific intent and action when used.
Ut – 396 Hz
This tone works on freeing guilt, fear and releasing negative emotions.
Re – 417 Hz
This next frequency helps bring about change and action.
Mi – 528 Hz
Known as the love frequency, this tone creates miracles and transformation in your life.
Fa – 639 Hz
This tone assists in the creation of harmonious relationships.
Sol – 741 Hz
Not only does this tone help awaken your intuition; it also aids cleansing and healing on a cellular level.
La – 852 Hz
This frequency is associated with returning to a state of divine or spiritual order. It emphasizes higher, unconditional love and grace.
Using for Health and Healing
Now that you have an idea of the power contained within these simple tones, you can use them to enhance your life. After working with them many people report reduced stress, greater energy and improved well-being.
The easiest way to use them is simply by listening. There are many Solfeggio samples and videos available on YouTube and other Internet sources. Consider playing them in the background as you meditate. Better yet, choose a tone and focus on the benefit associated with it. For example, if you want to improve your relationship with your family, listen to Fa – 639 Hz while visualizing a harmony among your relatives.
You can also enjoy the Solfeggio scale in traditional music as well. Many musicians are choosing to switch from standard A440 musical tuning to ancient Solfeggio A444 tuning, thus lining up with the 528 Hz frequency. It is encouraging to know that there are more songs and albums available using these healing tones.
Surround yourself with these ancient spiritual vibrations and see how they can change your life!
